MANDY

Being bathed and then being held so tenderly, the attention just a deep, tender moment, nothing sexual, it had me nearly in tears.

He noticed this as he rested his chin on my shoulder.

“Are you crying?” The pain in his voice made me force out a small, choked laugh.

“Yes, sorry,” I mumbled.

“Did I hurt you? What’s wrong?” His thumb and forefinger caught my chin as he tried to turn my face towards him, still holding me in the warm water of the bath.

“Nothing, just this… it’s sweet. Sorry, I’m a bit emotional sometimes.”

A low rumble vibrated against my back as he nuzzled me. God, even that had me tearing up again.

“It feels too good to be true,” I admitted. I wanted to believe this was real, that I could take him for his word, but I’d done that before, only to have it turn on me in an instant.

“It’s how we’re designed. Fiercely loyal lovers and protectors, the duty of a wolf. Our females are our livelihood, without them, we cannot continue on, therefore, they should be treated like the goddesses they are. My brothers here treat their women the same, perhaps tomorrow you can meet them and talk with them, hear from them what they think. I know it’s hard to take the word of one person, and in truth, we’ve only just met. It’s different for me, but I understand why you’re hesitant,” he said as his fingers trailed up and down my arms, leaving tingles in their wake.

It sounded perfect, like every woman’s dream, but he was right that I couldn’t just believe him. I was not naive anymore, I couldn’t just believe him, and I hated that he felt the need to prove it to be true. But actions spoke louder than words, and so far, his words were reflected in his actions.

“How about we get some sleep? Tomorrow, you can speak with the others. See if it helps ease some of your worries. I will court you either way, but I’d rather you not feel like you need to keep walls up.” He rose form behind me, and I smiled softly as he helped me out of the bath and wrapped a towel around me.

No man had ever taken such time with me, nor did they speak so gently to me, understanding my unease.

I wanted to throw caution to the wind, to just seize this moment, take a chance, but it wasn’t that easy.

I squealed and laughed as he swept me off my feet, carrying me into the bedroom and sitting me on the edge of the bed.

“Are you happy to sleep in this bed? I understand if you’d rather take the spare bed. I’d just like to hold you, that’s all,” he said as he bent over to be eye-level with me, that smile so tender and sweet.

“I’ll sleep here,” I whispered, and his smile just grew.

“Okay, great. Let’s get you into some clothes,” he said as he turned away from me, and I ran
